Cooling Tower Repair Solutions - A cooling tower is a prime target for corrosion as it is almost constantly exposed to moisture increasing its corrosion potential.

Most towers are constructed from galvanized sheet metal. The galvanizing [or factory-installed anti-corrosion coatings] last about as long as the manufacturer’s warranty.

ENECON coatings provide a robust anti-corrosion coating, as well as non-corrosive polymer paste repairs to seams and corrosion holes that develop over time.

  • CHEMCLAD GP - General Purpose High Performance Polymer Composite Coating System for Industrial/Commercial Applications In Standard Chemical Environments
  • CHEMCLAD SC is a two component, 100% solids, polymer system used for creating an outstanding corrosion and chemical resistant protective coating on all types of potable water equipment and structures.
  • DurAlloy is a two-component, 100% solids, multi-purpose polymer composite which can be easily machined on a lathe, drilled, tapped, filed, sanded and polished.

Case Study

Damaged Tube Sheet

Above is a typical “before” picture of a Marley cooling tower. The supports for the return screen are rusting out, and there is corrosion everywhere.

Tubesheet Cover

“After” ENECON CHEMCLAD GP has been applied. There is long-term corrosion protection to all surfaces. The picture does not tell the complete story. A similar-looking picture could be made from applying a simple rust-resisting paint. However, paint would result in a coating system of about 4 mils thick. The ENECON system results of a strong, 2-part polymer coating of 12-20 mils. Thickness is life!

Another Example:

Tubesheet After Treatment

May 2006 – a tower leaking so badly that they have a hose from the building almost constantly adding water to keep operating.  Here's why...

Grit blasting surface preparation reveals hundreds of holes, from pea to nickel size.

Tubesheet After Treatment

ENECON’s METALCLAD DurAlloy™ applied to seal all holes.

Followed by two coats of CHEMCLAD SC.

RESULT – This work was completed in May 2006. The tower remained in service [with no need for a water hose!] until May of 2013, when it was replaced due to mechanical/motor/fill failures unrelated to corrosion.
