Acid and Caustic Pump Bases Rebuilt with DuraFill

An aluminum plant in the U.A.E. was experiencing severe corrosion issues that needed special attention.  Located in the demineralizing area of the aluminum plant’s power plant, these concrete and ceramic tile covered acid and caustic pump bases were severely corroded and needed to be repaired and protected.

Leakage over 30 years from the pumps was able to penetrate the tile joints and damage the concrete below.  Pouring new concrete in this area was not an option.

The local ENECON Distributor was contacted and asked to provide a fast, reliable, and economical solution to the problem.

The entire area was first cleared of any loose concrete and tile then abraded by hand, vacuumed and any remaining residue was cleaned off the surface using a solvent.

After the application area was fully prepared, DuraFill mixed with a locally sourced aggregate was used to rebuild the pump base structures.

Two coats of CHEMCLAD XC were then applied to protect the newly repaired pump bases and the floor area of the entire pump enclosure.

CHEMCLAD GP was also applied to the walls as well as the floor next to the pump enclosure to prevent any issues in the future.
