This concrete base supports a 350 hp, high-service vertical pump at a Florida water treatment facility. This type of pump has a total load of over 12,000 lbs. The municipality required a product with a high compressive strength and short downtime to complete this repair. The maintenance engineers at this facility had tried conventional repairs to similar bases and failed.
Removal and rebuilding pumps of this type is costly and time-consuming, so very often, customers run the pumps to failure while increasing the pump load, which causes severe vibration and stresses the concrete bases until they break.
All the loose concrete was removed for the repair, and the remaining concrete was abrasive blasted. A form was made, and lag bolts and additional rebar were installed. ENECRETE DuraFill mixed with silica sand was poured into the former, creating the new base.
The maintenance engineers were so pleased with the results of this repair that ENECON has been invited to provide repair solutions to more bases at the facility.
