Screw conveyors are a common method to move dry materials.

These abrasive materials cause severe and sustained erosion (and possible corrosion, depending on the character of the material) to all parts of the screw, but especially to:

  • The edges of the “flights” or fins of the screw – allowing gaps between the flights and the trough, causing the conveyor to loose efficiency.
  • The intersection of the flights to the central shaft – causing the dry material to build up and clog the conveyor.

ENECON solution:

  1. METALCLAD DurAlloy™ or CP+AC™ to rebuild the flight edges to return efficiency to the machine
  2. METALCLAD CBX™ or EBX™ to provide a wear resistant surface to eroded areas.

Here is a partial repair, done by a power plant during the extremely tight time frame of a maintenance outage. Removing loose ceramic wear tiles, replacing with METALCLAD CBX™ and sealing the leading edge of the tiles at the same time.

Loose tile removed, priming prepared exposed surface with METALCLAD CL+AC™ for maximum bonding.
